Friday, a report by Malaysia's Department of Statistics said the sales value in the manufacturing sector rose 2.6% year-on-year in October compared with a revised growth of 8.6% in September. Manufacturing sales were valued 45.9 billion in the month.

The total number of employees in the manufacturing sector decreased 3.1% year-on-year to 1,065,278. Salaries and wages, however, rose 1.6% to 2.046 billion ringgit. Productivity, or average sales per employee increased 5.8% to 43,132.9 ringgits.

Month-on-month, manufacturing sales fell 9.4% in October. The number of employees fell 0.2%, while the wages and salaries paid declined 5.6%. Productivity dipped by 9.3%.

During the first ten months of the year, manufacturing sales rose 13.5% to 58.2 billion ringgit.
