Brazilian miner Vale's iron ore production totaled 96.755 million tons in the second quarter of 2018, up 5.3% compared to 91.849 million tons a year earlier, hitting a new output record. In comparison with the immediately previous quarter, the production of the commodity rose 18.1%. Meanwhile, iron ore sales increased 5.8% on an annual basis, reaching 73.29 million tons.

Vales's production of pellets between April and June totaled 12.838 million tons, up 5.1% year-on-year. Coal production fell 5.5% in the quarter and amounted to 2.871 million tons. Copper output fell by 2.9% and amounted to 97.9 thousand tons, while the production of nickel rose 0.3%, to 66.2 thousand tons, and cobalt's fell by 7.8% to 1,302 thousand tons.
