Austria's inflation rose marginally in August on higher transport and household maintenance cost, Statistics Austria reported Monday.

Consumer prices climbed 2.2 percent year-on-year in August, following a 2.1 percent rise in July.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices gained 1.2 percent on year, while clothing and footwear prices fell 0.3 percent.

Cost of housing, water and energy advanced 2.3 percent and that of transport climbed 4.1 percent. Household maintenance expenses were up 2.8 percent, data showed.

Month-on-month, consumer prices remained flat in August.

EU harmonized inflation remained unchanged at 2.3 percent in August. Month-on-month, the harmonized index of consumer prices remained unchanged.
