2014.10.0102:01:00UTC+00US dollar reaches 6-year peak against Japanese yen

The US dollar hit its six-year high versus the Japanese yen and was close to two-year high versus the euro while collating more bullish bolster Wednesday.

The greenback’s strength initially fell due to slowdown in the eurozone inflation. But the currency last traded at ¥109.88, up 0.3% late Tuesday in Asia.

"Friday's non-farm payrolls will be key, as it could raise rate hike expectations another notch," said Shinichiro Kadota, Chief Japan FX Strategist at Barclays Bank.

Also, renewed heat on the euro helped lift the dollar index to a four-year peak of 86.218. The index had since edged back down to 86.048.

The market did not reach much to a comment by a Japanese government spokesman who mentioned the weak yen had to be watched, but traders remained on guard in the event authorities’ jawboning became louder.
