2009.01.0806:13:00UTC+00Dutch Consumer Price Inflation Slows In December

Thursday, the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics said the consumer price index, or CPI rose 1.9% year-over-year in December, slower than the 2.3% recorded in the previous month. Economists were looking for an increase of 2.1%.

In December, the fall in inflation was the fourth in a row. This was mainly due to decline in motor fuel prices.

On a monthly basis, the CPI declined 0.7% in December, after falling 0.4% in November. Economists had expected a decrease of 0.6%.

In 2008, inflation averaged 2.5%.

Meanwhile, the harmonized index of consumer prices, or HICP rose 1.7% year-over-year in December, compared with the 1.9% rise in the previous month.
